A tour of Scotland custom-tailored to your Highland clan or family.
Highland Roots Ancestral Tours (HRAT) can design tours specific to your Highland clan, (see the list of applicable clans in the sidebar at right.) These tours would be tailored not only to your clan but available information specific to your family ancestry. For all tours we conduct basic genealogy research into your ancestry as well as incorporating Graeme's extensive knowledge of the Scottish Highlands and the history of your clan. This is NOT a generic tour. For all levels we create a unique ancestral journey.
Three levels of clan tours designed to meet your needs and budget.
We will research and design a tour accessible by your personal transportation means. Specific sites on your tour (with brief directions on how to locate them) with historical and genealogical information will be provided. Price will be determined by fees associated with sites visited.
In addition to those services noted in the "Laird" tour, we arrange transport with a knowledgeable driver to help guide you, and provide information about accommodation - which you choose and book. Price will be determined by transportation costs and tour site fees specific to your tour.
We provide all breakfasts, accommodations and transportation, with pick-up and drop-off at your hotel or B&B. Both HRAT's tour guide and genealogist will guide you through this historical and ancestral journey. See a page for a Clan MacMillan tour as an example of this tour level. Price will be determined by transportation costs, tour site fees and tour guide expenses associated with your tour.
Our consultant genealogist and historian can provide help with genealogical research whilst in Scotland (or do it for you in advance of your tour), and when leading a tour may be able to arrange to meet members of your clan in Scotland (sometimes including your chief).
Please contact Carol Morris by email or phone 865-765-1120 with any questions or to initiate booking your tour.
The maximum number of participants for any tour is twelve. While we advise on the best ways to get to Scotland for your chosen tour, we do not arrange any travel outside of Scotland.
All tours include general visitor attractions such as castles, cathedrals, distilleries, battlefields, and lots of the beautiful mountains, lochs (lakes), forests, and moors for which the Highlands of Scotland are famous.
